Harper was excited to partner with GOCarbonFibre 2015 to host a pre-conference site visit at Harper’s headquarters in Buffalo, New York on July 20th, 2015. Attendees received the unique opportunity to tour Harper’s research and development Microline™ and 3 Meter Oxidation Oven. Harper’s PhD and technical experts led small group tours of each unit operation, including the Oxidation Oven, LT and HT Furnace systems, UHT Furnace system, and advanced control systems, offering insight into the advantages of this state-of-the-art line. The day culminated in a networking dinner next to historic Niagara Falls.
The next day, Dr. Bill Stry presented at the GOCarbonFibre conference on “Novel Oxidation Oven Technology for the Next Generation of Carbon Fiber Manufacturing.” The presentation discussed:
• How insights from advanced Oven CFD modeling can guide designs offering improvements to efficiency and safety
• How utilities for Ovens, as the highest energy consumer in the manufacturing process, can be optimized for flexibility and performance
• How modular designs can offer improvements to typically long lead time installations
